Types of Distractions
Visual Distractions
These distractions cause the driver to take their eyes off the road. Examples include looking at a GPS device, checking your phone, or watching something outside the vehicle, such as billboards or other vehicles
Manual Distractions
These happen when a driver takes their hands off the steering wheel. This can occur when adjusting the radio, using a mobile phone, eating, or even holding a coffee cup while driving.
Cognitive Distractions
These occur when the driver’s mind is not focused on the task of driving. It might include thinking about work, personal issues, or anything else that diverts the driver’s attention from the road. Mental distractions can be just as dangerous as physical ones.
