Answering an urgent and mostly a not so urgent phone call, responding to a text, finding something in the dash board, looking back to talk to your fussy kid or to a friend are all examples of distracted driving – any instance where your 100% attention was not on the road or your car! Distractions can be:

Ocular

    • Anything that takes your eyes off the road
    • Mobile phones
    • Looking at someone or something outside the car
    • Looking inside the dash boards

Hands-off

    • Anything that causes you to take one or both hands off the steering wheel
    • Messaging
    • Looking through your handbag
    • Grabbing something from the back seat
    • Eating or drinking

Cognitive

    • Anything that takes your attention away from driving
    • Day dreaming
    • Lack of sleep
    • Stress
    • Loud music
